Jacobs coffee was founded in the of 1895 by Johann Jacobs. He opened his first grocery store in Bremen, Germany which was specialty shop for beverage like coffee, tea and chocolate. The shop also sells biscuits.
Jacob roasted the beans in order to create his own special brand of coffee. Less than 100 years later, the successful coffee company merged with a Swiss chocolate company to form Jacobs Suchard.
In 1987 the company was bought by Brach’s Candy. In 1990, Philip Morris purchased Jacobs for $3.8 billion.
Today, Jacobs is a billion-dollar brand. Jacobs coffee is now available in the market throughout Europe and the Middle East, and the brand is a market leader in more than 20 countries.
Jacobs coffee today is marketed in Europe by Jacobs Douwe Egberts.
