Anyos Jedlik

Anyos Jedlik (1800-1895) a Benedictine monk, was a genius in experimental physics. Between 1840 and 1878 Jedlik taught physics at Budapest University of Sciences.

During the years 1827-1828 he conducted experiments that result in the invention of the first electromotor.

In 1826 he pioneered a way to produce carbonated water on a commercial scale. To Hungarians, Jedlik is seltzer’s founding father. Jedlik engaged in a serious project of working out the industrial production of soda water and artificial mineral water which had been already used in Geneva since 1798.

‘Artificial mineral waters benefit from adding free carbonic acid into water in a greater quantity than ever or the content of natural waters and this fact is honor for inventors.’ This concept starts the study written by Anyos Jedlik in Latin that is a brief summary of the original procedure made by Jedlik.

In 1826 engaged in the production of the first soda water plant in Hungary. Initially, the soda water crafts were produced by local artisans and sold in glass bottles.
