Goat milk in history

Goats first evidence of domesticated sometime between 8000 and 7000 BC. Although the date of milking and milk utilization is unknown, the first deliberately soured goat milk probably was prepared before 2000 BC.

During ancient time King Solomon promises as a reward to the diligent husbandman, that he shall have goats milk enough for his food.

Cleopatra, was legendary for her use for beauty products which were among them goat’s milk, She was known for bathing in goat’s milk.

During ancient Phoenician time sheep and goat’s milk was used for cheese and butter.

Pliny in his Natural History, describes the uses and effects of goats milk in treating a variety of ailments.

It is worthy remark that Avenzoar recommended goats milk in cases of pulmonary consumption as the best substitute for asses milk, which is strongly recommended by Galen in that disease.

Beginning in the late 1920s and continuing through the 1930s, the question of whether goat’s milk was a suitable food for infants arose.

Toward the end of the 1930s and at the beginning of the 1940s, attention shifted to whether canned milk and frozen were acceptable.
